Any way to reduce the size of fdroid_db-wal?
- Device OS and version: multiple
- Device model/manufacturer: multiple
- F-Droid version (in the About screen): 1.16.3
- F-Droid privileged extension version (if installed): NA
What did you do? (clear steps if possible)
While going into a device to do a regular, manual .apk cleanup (due to no resolution on issue #1869), I discovered a database apparently taking up more space than the main F-Droid database.
device_1:/data/data/org.fdroid.fdroid/databases # ls -al
total 173956
drwxrwx--x 2 u0_a79 u0_a79 4096 Mar 21 19:56 .
drwxr-x--x 9 u0_a79 u0_a79 4096 Dec 14 2021 ..
-rw-rw---- 1 u0_a79 u0_a79 56664064 Apr 7 23:11 fdroid_db
-rw------- 1 u0_a79 u0_a79 262144 Apr 8 00:34 fdroid_db-shm
-rw------- 1 u0_a79 u0_a79 121185712 Apr 7 23:11 fdroid_db-wal
The same file has zero size on another device:
device_2:/data/data/org.fdroid.fdroid/databases # ls -al
total 63854
drwxrwx--x 2 u0_a223 u0_a223 3488 2023-03-21 20:02 .
drwx------ 9 u0_a223 u0_a223 3488 2022-06-12 17:53 ..
-rw-rw---- 1 u0_a223 u0_a223 65282048 2023-04-07 18:16 fdroid_db
-rw------- 1 u0_a223 u0_a223 32768 2023-04-07 23:53 fdroid_db-shm
-rw-rw---- 1 u0_a223 u0_a223 0 2023-04-07 18:16 fdroid_db-wal
Obviously, that led me to wonder what fdroid_db-wal does (no programming background here), and if some way exists to reduce the size of it (to make backups faster, for example).
