Why we use UUID / GUIDs
UUIDs are used to:
- provide a layer of abstraction from sensitive information such as email address when 'remembering' a user, or a secret event that has a public URL but isn't listed publicly.
- make it difficult for 3rd parties to deriving service usage numbers (eg. user_id 15 vs a UUID)
- annoy site scrapers
- make data sharding possible, although pageDriver does not support this architecture concept
The problem with UUIDs... they aren't human friendly.
This issue is to discuss UUIDs, alternatives, and/or optimizations. So far UUIDv4 works well!
