January and February 2019 decisions made
In order to move forward with our work over the next three months, we need sign-off on a number of issues that we have discussed in detail over the years but not had final sign-off on.
Our aim now is to firm up decisions so we can make more public our offering for the hosted platform and can finalize details of the co-ops.
Hosted platform
Pricing for hosted Drutopia site:
Price $50/month or $500/year if pre-paid for whole year.
(Decision made January 14, 2019)
Support we offer for the $50/month hosted site:
- A one hour one-on-one to get you started
- Clearly written documentation
- Once a month office hours
- Support forum (GitLab until/unless we find something else)
- Not guaranteeing you will get a response in support forum
- We will prioritize questions that will be useful to other members
- Available for hire on an hourly basis
(Decision made January 21, 2019)
Customization
Interim answer to the question, "what can I customize?" These are things we'd like to see customizable but that are not yet developed/supported:
- Colour: choosing from a defined list of colour schemes. Advantage of being an early adopter, you can advocate for one that doesn't exist yet.
- Names of pages: selected ones can be customized (via config form).
- Edit order of menu items, add a static page to an existing menu, add a new menu.
- Ability to select which Drutopia features are installed.
(Decision made January 28, 2019)
Important to note that there are many other customizations that managers do have access to currently:
- They have full control over blocks, taxonomies, contact form
- Site name/slogan
- Account settings and messages
Co-op structure
- We will have a single, multistakeholder cooperative.
(Decision made February 11, 2019)
Ethics screen
Purpose
The ethics screen is one facet of our evaluation to assess the fit between the Drutopia project and a proposed partner or funder. The purpose is to stay true to our values and so will not take funds from sources contrary to those values. An ethics screen can identify issues early in an engagement process and so save time and effort for all involved.
Trigger for an ethics screen
An ethics screen is run when there is a financial threshold met of $10,000. It will be done early in a process, for example if responding to an RFP or grant opportunity, and before any contract is signed.
Screen
Drutopia does not accept funds where the funder is strongly at odds with the Drutopia Purpose and Goals. This includes for example:
- proprietary tech giants such as Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft and Apple.
- military entities
- industries such as armaments, oil and gas, tobacco
- global capitalist institutions like the World Bank
- instruments of political hegemony such as US AID (Decision made Feb 14, 2019. Updated Feb 18, 2019)
