Tags give the ability to mark specific points in history as being important
  • v6.0.0

    The official CanESM6 release! This tag reflects the first commit used in CMIP7 production simulations. 
    
    CanESM6.0.0 reflects the finalization of a major model development cycle, including:
    
    ## Atmosphere
    - New physics
    - Move from the spectral dynamical core (T63 / 2.8 degrees) to the GEM dynamical core - here for CanESM6-0-MR on the 1 degree Yin Yang grid (but higher resolutions supported)
    
    ## Land
    - Upgrade from CLASS-CTEM to CLASSICv1.5
    
    ## Ocean
    - Upgrade from NEMO3.4.1 & LIM2 to NEMO4.2 and SI3
    
    ## Coupler
    - Coupling NEMO to GEM Yin Yang
    - Moved river routing here from the atmosphere
    
    ## Infrastructure
    - Move from "config-canesm" to imsi based configuration
    
    In addition, there are major changes across components to support the CMIP7 experimental design and data request.
    
    As noted, this is the first tag used for initial CMIP7 production. Beyond this, additional cmip7 experiments and other required changes will continue to accumulate.
  • v5.1.10

    This tag collects many changes, used to port CanESM5-1 from U2 to U3, and to prepare for CMIP7. This tag represents the first commit used for CMIP7 production runs. Subsequent to this, more cmip7 experiments and any necessary (but bit identical) fixes will be applied.
  • v6.0_release_final

    This is the final commit on `v6.0_release`. Work beyond this is on develop_canesm.
  • v5.3-rc2

    Final commit of the "v5.3" lineage on `develop_canesm`. This version of the model was never fully tuned nor finalized. It is not recommended for scientific applications.
  • v6.0-rc6

    All MRs from the %v6.0-rc6 milestone:

  • v6.0-rc5

    `v6.0-rc5` contains relatively minor updates, in a final or near final version of CanESM6-0-MR (as far as bit pattern goes):
    
    - time-interpolation fix for CanAM-GEM forcing
    - Updates to CMIP7 land forcing files
    - Fixes bug in ocean BGC leading to banding
    - Fixes AMIP interpolation offset
    - Various DR related merges across components
    - Various technical updates, including for parent tracking, IMSI based CI, etc
    - Additional of more configs, e.g. for CMAM
    
    Note, this tag was updated to correct a typo in CMIP7 files. The bit pattern remains identical.
  • v6.0-rc4-u3-tst

    This is purely a test for CD.
  • v6.0-rc4

    `v6.0-rc4`  contains notable scientific changes:
    
    - Change in vertical interpolation in GEM from quintic to bicubic
    - Updates to ipemi file and cuscale
    - Slight retune for the above
    - Support for CanAM HR (0.5/0.25) models
    - Various code fixes and improvements across modules
    - Migration of CI to U3
    - Introduction of functional CMIP7 piControl and historical experiments

    The commit f1906b18 is tagged `v5.2-rc1`, to enable easy identification for the branch point of some science work based on CLASSIC.
  • v5.3-rc1.1

    - Adds imsi support for 51c physics options for AMIP/ESM
    - Sets all 51c physics setups to use switch_new_lltrans=.true. (bit changing)
    - Ensures BI between 51c setups under setup-canesm and imsi
    - Maintain BI across setup-canesm and imsi for 53 physics setups
    - Maintains BI with the older v5.3-rc1 tag for 53 physics setups (but not 51c)
  • v5.3-rc1

    This tag represents a stable starting point for v5.3 tuning in late December 2026. It includes updates to:
    
    - CLASSIC code and parameters (including consistency with v6) (!1089)
    - Background diffusivity for consistency with v6 (!1080)
    - IPEMI files, and suz0 roughness in particular, impacting dust burdens (!1099)
    - Technical bugfixes for imsi initialization (!1100)

    There are further cleanup/consistency and technical changes that will be worked towards for the next tag. These immediate future plans should not impact the climate.
  • v6.0-rc2

    This `rc2` tag represents CanESM6 work as of mid-December 2025, and specifically:
    
    - Allows users to reproduce the tuning candidate `t30-esm60-wrcp-004c` out of the box (under setup-canesm or imsi)
    - Maintains the old bit pattern of v5.1c runs (under setup-canesm / not available in imsi)
    - Reflects the point in the code used for extensive evaluation of CanESM6 "rc2" by the A4D activity (see https://gitlab.science.gc.ca/CanESM/analysis_for_development/-/wikis/A4D%20CMIP7%20analysis/CanESM6%20release%20candidate%20analysis)
  • v5.3-b2.0

    - Significant updates since b1; 
    - close to v6.0-rc1, but with some differences still.

    CanESM6-0-MR: v6.0-rc1 is the first release candidate, whereby the model structure is completely frozen. This variant will be used for the first round of tuning CanESM6-MR.
