The screen is drawn with some flick. The redraw is noticeable, probably because the way the system of sleep is implemented, which will not wait before redrawing if there is latency. Maybe the clear code causes this and can be avoided by repositioning at 0,0 and redrawing the virtual screen. Another possible solution is to enforce a real sleep of 1 second, or wait for 2 seconds controlling unix epoch instead of 1 seconds, if there is latency.
