Upgrade to JupyterLab3

Hey Benjamin,

I was ping on @jupyterlab/git for a bug related to this extension. As the current PR for updating to JupyterLab 3 is not ready (and not using the latest template), I took the liberty to bump it to JupyterLab 3 to test my fix on @jupyterlab/git. So here is my port to JupyterLab 3.
