WIP: Some initial thoughts and questions (Just for discussion)

Hey there, this project is really interesting to me and I'd like to kick this off with some discussion about the paper. These are some thoughts and questions from my first read through.

Apologies if there's a better way to do this. Creating an issues doesn't really allow me to reference specific parts of the text and I wanted to keep everything in one place, so I figured this was the best option.
