Adding strings in the ASE GUI status bar

This merge request is to allow strings to be written to the ASE GUI status bar.

This is very useful for my work, as I have an entry in my xyz files for each atom that is a string rather than an int.

Without this modification, no status bar is given for xyz files that have strings as a column in the xyz files.
