A converter to migrate your YNAB 4 data to Financier.
How do I use this?
You should follow the below steps before using this tool!
Locate your [BUDGET-NAME]~xxxxxx.ynab4 or Budget.yfull data file
Follow the YNAB docs under "Finding your budget folder" here.
On Macs, it is commonly under Documents/YNAB if you're not using cloud sync.
On Windows, you'll have to locate the Budget.yfull file inside of the .ynab4 directory and upload that. It's usually something like: My Budget.ynab4/data1~67107085/0BD5KD0A-5940-J38C-DF23-SKDJNC3982SJ/Budget.yfull.
Run Financier migration tool
After you know where the YNAB 4 (.ynab4) file is, click the screen on the Financier migrate tool to bring up the file selection dialog.
After uploading, a .json file will instantly download.
Upload JSON file to Financier
Note! Before uploading to Financier, log out of your account and clear local budgets. Then, follow the upload JSON file to Financier instructions below. If you're satisfied, you can login and all of your budgets will sync alongside your newly imported budget. If you don't like the import or something isn't working, click "Clear local budgets" on Financier and log back into your account.
Because the historical budget data can be large, do NOT repeatedly import budgets into Financier and then sync the data. This can cause Financier to run slower.
Go to app.financier.io and make sure you follow the note above.
Then, click the large "+" box to get to the New Budget dialog.
Press "Restore budget from a file".
Upload your JSON file here. It will probably be under your browser's Downloads folder.
Hopefully everything worked. Note that the migration isn't perfect and you may need to make some tweaks and move some categories around.
Note: At the time of writing, Financier doesn't have a way to hide categories -- just move the previously hidden in YNAB 4 categories to the bottom and collapse the master category(s).
Something is broken!
Unfortunately, I cannot test all edge cases with this tool. If something is not working properly, please shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you're comfortable with it, also include your .ynab4 file so I can debug the problem you are having.
I don't want to upload my budget data to a random server. Security?
This tool runs completely within your browser on your computer. There is no security risk. :)
What about my nYNAB/other budgeting software data?
Other members of the community are making converters for Financier. If you're a developer and want to get your hands dirty, check out the docs on the Financier data format.
I don't see the most recent transactions/budget data when I import to Financier.
You may need to compact your budget file. To do this, open YNAB and press then key shortcut CTRL + ALT + Shift + C. You should see a prompt asking your to continue. After doing this, save your budget (CTRL + C) and then try using this tool again.
