atomic trouble - safe escape

The atomic update that I added in XClib to detect errors inside the GPU XC routines still gives troubles in some cases (seems to work with cuda 11.2, 11.4, 11.6, some strange problems with 11.0 and 11.3, under certain conditions works compiled with autotools but not with cmake..). While trying to clarify the real issue, this should be a quite safe escape. Hopefully end of the story till the next release.
