Bake vertex colors and normals into the terrain composite map
OpenMW's distant land detail is quite poor, despite its use of composite maps being surprisingly detailed for what they are. User annalithic proposed baking the terrain vertex colors into the composite maps as there were generated, and was later extended to include the vertex normals. The end result allows the composite maps to retain a shocking amount of detail, even the terrain is extremely low poly, such as by setting the Vertex LOD Mod
to -2
. Unfortunately, this experiment was not submitted as an MR before the user became inactive and the branch deleted. Correction, it is indeed available. https://github.com/annalithic/openmw/commits/compositemaps
I suggest this enhancement be reimplemented and submitted as an MR for further review and testing.
