Combat AI movement is not very responsive
Movement and attack are put behind a 250 ms reaction timer, which is very obvious for turning, and combat movement also overrides pathfinding movement, often making the NPC unable to react to the player backing away in time. Morrowind's delay seems somewhat lower (?) for attacks and zero for turning.
Other problems:
- The current attempt to finish turning before attacking doesn't seem too reliable
- Morrowind has some kind of moving target aiming, but it's severely restricted compared to OpenMW's, e.g. it seems to work for creatures but not NPC casters/rangers. Making combat AI more responsive would cause OpenMW's moving target aiming and its limitations look more apparent. For example, it's probably not sensible to reset the desired turning angle when the actual direction angle is too steep for the actor to be able to reach it. Creatures also don't need to turn to cast projectiles in the target's direction. I don't know if biped creature casters behave like NPCs or non-biped creatures.
