SDL error when opening with Steam
I'm using the Daily PPA for Ubuntu 16.04. I usually open OpenMW with steam since it can pass on my controller configuration. Xbox 360 controllers are not sold in this country so I have to buy generic controllers. Other linux games recognize the controllers just fine but not OpenMW so I use steam.
Since the beginning of June, 2017 whenever I open OpenMW using steam I get an error message.
"Coule Not Initialize SDL. Could Not Initialize UDEV."
When I click play with steam the launcher comes up. When I click play in the launcher I get the error above.
This is probably not an issue with OpenMW. Steam put out updates for Linux, Mac, and Windows that broke a lot of games in early June. However, I think this is something that should be looked at just in case. OpenMW still opens and runs just fine without using steam but again, it will not recognize any controller besides an eleven year old x360 controller that no longer really works. Perhaps someone could test this with a stable build that used to work fine under steam to see if those too are broken. I know OpenMW can not fix steam if Valve is the real problem here but since running OpenMW with Steam is popular on Linux, it might we worth our while to conform to whatever bugs they're forcing onto us.
Also, the only reason Linux users use steam to run OpenMW is because they want to use a controller. There are lots of other open source games that have excellent controller recognition and configuration without the need for steam or special xbox drivers. If OpenMW doesn't want to be affected by bugs in steam, maybe changing something in the way OpenMW handles controllers will make steam moot.
