Random container contents behave differently than vanilla

The way it seems to work in vanilla morrowind is this, based on savescumming:

  • Enter area
  • If I open a given container at a given level, it always contains the same things at that level
  • If I never opened it, and I leave the area and come back, it can contain different contents, even if my level is the same
  • If I level up, it will use new contents, even if I stay in the area, as long as I hadn't opened the container

In OpenMW, the contents of the container, including the leveled list it uses, seems to be determined when the container is loaded.

In vanilla it seems like containers have a seed that's reset when you load them, but if you open the container, reseeding is blocked in the future. And leveled lists are rolled when you open the container, not when they're loaded. This last part is actually very important! It means that you can wander around at a low level and not gimp the loot you'll get from looting things at a high level later on. With OpenMW's current treatment, this doesn't happen.

  • Can be forced to not resist arrest by casting Calm Humanoid on aggroed guards
