ArcMenu Development is Stopping!!! to be continued..
Hi from LinxGem33 aka Andy C
Its been a pleasure contributing to the open source community on various projects private and public and also the GNOME project and can you all believe its been nearly 5 years since i founded ArcMenu "wow", but its time for me to step down and stop developing ArcMenu further don't worry Andrew Zaech the current lead JS developer will be taking over maintainer-ship for the foreseeable future, details of ArcMenu's new home on GitLab and EGO will be forthcoming in the next few days.
My reason..
Over the last year the team have seen the rapid improvement to the GNOME desktop and its meant that most extension developers have had to play cat and mouse to keep up with all the new changes, for example last years migration to the new ES6 standards and more have been coming as we have been developing, as you have all seen now ArcMenu's code base has grown substantially 1000's of new lines of code which as you all know makes developing in your spare time extremely hard, but we also acknowledge this is the price of progress and "oh boy" has GNOME progressed over this year alone, but for humble third party extension developers this has meant that we have had to constantly chase our tails to meet the aggressive development cycle of GNOME and in the end its meant that I'm no longer enjoying what i was doing and it felt like work not a hobby.
Going forward..
As mentioned ArcMenu hopefully isn't going to stop when i step down but rather @AndrewZaech has kindly said he would take maintainer-ship for the foreseeable future, and guys your in good hands he has been responsible for a lot of the new features we now have in ArcMenu, so with most open source projects its never really the end :)
Conclusion..
So i just want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those who have helped out over the years to get ArcMenu where it is and those who have supported the the project "you know who you are" and as they say in Canada Peace ouut
Kind regards LinxGem33 aka Andy C
