Backend repository: https://gitlab.com/LibreFoodPantry/client-solutions/bear-necessities-market/ordersystem/vieworder/backend
Although there was no issue made for this, at some point I realized that the Backend repository had a sample place holder that I changed to reflect the purpose of the Backend.
Reflection
Reflection: What worked well?
Overall I believe that Sprint 1 went relatively well given some unexpected circumstances relating to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic and the clean slate of the ViewOrder component. All issues that were opened, assigned to a team member, and spikes were completed on time. Although most of the sprint composed of research spikes versus actively working on developing the ViewOrder component, there is still value in the spikes that were conducted as all members of the team were able to have the opportunity to learn new technologies and step out of their comfort zones. Responsive communication was a key aspect that worked very well during this sprint as we were able to keep up-to-date with each other on a personal welfare level and work performance level. Zoom was our go-to communication channel as everyone has experience with the technology and everyone was quite flexible with meeting outside of our established meeting time on Thursdays.
Reflection: What did not work well?
Overall I could not think of anything in particular that did not work well. There were no conflicts or disputes that impacted team dynamics and everyone was amicable with each other. Given that most of the issues were worked on independently, there were also no matters that impeded each other’s work as well. For issues that required some team collaboration, such as creating the requirements for ViewOrder, creating the issue development board, etc., ample communication and some self-organization helped smooth out any concerns.
Reflection: Future Team Growth
In terms of what changes can be made to further improve the team, I think what we have so far in terms of work ethic and team dynamics will be beneficial in carrying on with good performance for the next sprint. Moving onward, future roadblocks (that are not of outstanding nature) can be addressed with responsive communication and potential adjustments to work allocation in regards to the more prioritized features that must be completed.
Reflection: Future Individual Growth
In terms of improvements I can make as an individual, there are two particular aspects that I could improve upon. Being more active in the Libre Food Pantry’s Discord server, specifically in the Backend Community of Practice, can be beneficial when I have questions or concerns as I am the type of person to work on my own even if I am unsure of something. Getting feedback, opinions, and/or confirmation of something will cut-down on uncertainties and time, furthermore providing more opportunity to contribute to the overall progress of developing the ViewOrder component. Additionally, I could be more conscious of the delegation of issues across the team in terms of equal distribution of work. I have a tendency to take on more work if I know I am capable of completing it, which may unknowingly take away opportunities for other members of the team to contribute to the development of ViewOrder. As such I should be more aware of the amount of work I assign myself to and the amount of work that others have been assigned as well.
