Stripping of whitespace from loaded yaml

When parsing the build element YAML, we currently strip the tracking refs of whitespace. I am unclear as to what benefit this brings other than from when tracking information has been modified manually and inadvertently introduced whitespace.

I raise this, as this has surprised us as we have been experimenting with new source plugins and trialling the storage of more complex tracking information that may include whitespace (such as a dependency lock file).
