Overlay Icons cause icons to flash like crazy

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Sys
Windows 7 (x64)
TortoiseGit 1.7.4.0
git version 1.7.7.1.msysgit.0
Also have TortoiseSVN installed

Checkout a git repo to the desktop
Open explorer with layout on navigation pane
Icons flash up and down

Only seems to occur if Icon Overlays -> Status Cache is set to Default. Setting it to Shell Extended seemed to stop the issue.
My windows Max Cached Icons is set to 2048
Link items together to show that they're related or that one is blocking others.
