Spectator camera moves very un-smoothly when you start going fast
Samual created issue #1517 (closed) on 2013-04-20T20:17:16Z:
The ticrate appears to have an affect upon spectating— If you set spectating speed to full speed, and then start moving from a previously stopped state, your view will jump forward at first and THEN become smooth if you hold it in.
This can be seen more clearly if you do sys_ticrate 0.1, where you don’t move for the first 100ms after you press the movement key, and then suddenly your movement becomes smooth. Perhaps lerping isn’t being done properly here?
One possible solution (and we should consider this for other reasons anyway, like latency issues): A client-side spectator camera? I.e. the camera being entirely controlled by the client, and the server just follows what the client says. For spectators, that is actually COMPLETELY acceptable, because spectators can cause no harm with this really.
