Google Maps Plugin Not Working

I just installed the google maps pugin. When the event listing or single event pages load, the map shows up briefly but then turns to an error state and says

"Oops! Something went wrong. This page didn't load Google Maps correctly. See the JavaScript console for technical details."

I got an API key and entered it but that didn't seem to help. Please help.
