No transition from free-fall to gliding; gliding animation/physics.
Reproduction:
- Go to a high place.
- Start a glide, go out to where you lots of space below you.
- Stop gliding momentarily, reach a high (or terminal) velocity.
- Start gliding, wonder where the momentum went.
Animation:
I believe ideally there should be a "swoop" to transition; you start off with the glider on but facing totally downward (especially if at terminal velocity, perhaps a less extreme diagonal angle depending on percentage of terminal velocity reached) and smooth out to the usual horizontal glide.
Physics:
Most (not all due to resistances) of the vertical velocity should be converted to horizontal velocity into the glide, such that your gliding velocity is now almost what your falling vertical velocity was; this "extra" velocity could fade back to the standard glide speed over a reasonably lengthy period of time.
