Follow-up from "Do not deploy to pages if the docs:build job fails"

The following discussion from !293 (merged) should be addressed:

  This fails in the latest xarray release, but is already fixed on their main branch.

  Suggestion: Merge this now, creating an error in the docs ... but fixing the more critical problem of not having docs at all. As a follow-up MR, reactivate this part of the docs.
