About Tyler Weekley
I'm a Senior Professional Services Engineer focused on Security at GitLab, based out of South Carolina.
Who I Am
I'm originally from South Carolina, where I grew up immersed in sports. I played baseball in college as a pitcher, which taught me discipline, teamwork, and the importance of preparation. I hold both a Bachelor's and Master's of Science in Computer Science from Charleston Southern University, and I'm a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
Before joining GitLab, I worked in the public sector as an engineer, focusing on integration efforts and cybersecurity engineering. This background gave me hands-on experience with complex security challenges and the importance of building robust, reliable systems that protect critical infrastructure.
I'm an ENTJ-A personality type, which means I'm naturally driven, strategic, and focused on efficiency. I thrive on solving problems, building relationships, and helping teams achieve their goals.
My Role
As a Senior Professional Services Engineer, I work directly with customers to help them successfully implement and optimize their security practices using GitLab. My mission is to help organizations strengthen their security posture while accelerating their development velocity.
I believe in finding simple solutions to complex problems. My approach is rooted in avoiding over-engineering. Complexity should only be added when absolutely necessary. I'm a strong advocate for starting small, ensuring the fundamentals are solid, and then scaling thoughtfully from there.
How I Work
Working Hours: I'm based in South Carolina and am most active between 0630 and 1500(3pm) EST. I sometimes work flexible hours and send messages at times that work for me. Please feel free to read, action, or reply at a time that works for you. If I'm sending messages outside of normal hours, I don't expect an immediate response.
Communication Preferences:
- Slack: This is my preferred communication platform for ad-hoc questions, updates, or general conversation. I'm highly responsive on Slack and check it regularly throughout the day.
- Email: I check email regularly and use it for more formal communications, especially with external stakeholders or for matters requiring documentation.
Collaboration Style: I'm a very open collaborator and believe in over-communication to ensure everyone is on the same page. I'd rather share too much context than leave teammates guessing. I value transparency and real-time collaboration through documentation, issues, and open discussions.

- I believe in starting with simple solutions and iterating. Let's build a solid foundation first, then add complexity only when necessary.
