Changing language does not work after coming to the app with a link containing the language

After coming to the app with a link containing the language, trying to change language causes the app to start reloading the contents infinitely.

E.g. open a URL containing species and language selections and try to change language. Changing species in between doesn't seem to help either. This behaviour occurs for me in Firefox and Chromium.

This is important because we would want to link directly to a certain language in the app.
