What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Put a GIT repository behind HTTP authentication
- Do a clone of this using http://someserver/somerepository.git
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
TortoiseGIT times out and does not ask for a username or password
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest public version at time of writing

Since version 1.6.6 I believe, git has better support for HTTP authentication. See
http://progit.org/2010/03/04/smart-http.html. There is a solution for this problem, using a _netrc file, but this is cumbersome.
If TortoiseGit can provide a prompt for a username and password, much like TortoiseSVN does, for
repositories requiring HTTP authentication this would help a lot.
