Cannot view submodule log if repository sits under directory symlink
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Navigate to a repository that has a submodule via a symbolic directory link
- Right click on the submodule folder inside the repository main directory
- Select "Git Show Log" from the context menu (or submenu)
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: Submodule log opens. Actual: Error message appears: 'libgit 2 returned - invalid symlink (). Function not implemented.'
What version of TortoiseGit and Git are you using? On what operating system?
This issue appeared in TortoiseGit 2.5.0. It is a regression from 126.96.36.199, where this issue does not appear. The regression may be internal to libgit, which was updated in TortoiesGit 2.5.0.
Please provide any additional information below.
The issuw only affects the submodule, not the main repository. It is possible to view the log of the repository, even if it sits under a directory symlink.
When trying to commit to the submodule, a similar error message appears, but with the text "failed to get parent of commit <commit_hash_goes_here>: invalid symlink (symlink path). Function not implemented." However, the commit window stays open, and it is still possible to proceed with the commit.
