"Reset master to this" Works on whole tree, not just the file or directory

So I selected "show log" on a directory and wanted to revert said directory to an earlier commit. I tried "Reset Master to this". But counter intuitively to me, this reset this whole tree (including all folders outside the target folder) to that commit. Suddenly I had thousands of files reverted, while I only expected the 3 files in the folder to revert.

How to only revert/reset a folder/file to a specific commit?
