Explorer hangs on dead network drives

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Access temporary network share via IP-Address
  2. Remove drive
  3. Try to right click a folders in File Explorer

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

  • Expected: Normal context menu.
  • Experienced: Hang, no response in File explorer.

What additional information?

Reboot doesn't solve the problem. Problem persists while dead network share's path is in recent file list in File Explorer. Clear history resolves issue.
