TortoiseGit is slow on Windows 10 1709 (especially TortoiseGitMerge takes long and uses lots of CPU to start with ribbon)

Update: The patch KB4058258 (OS Build 16299.214) released on January 31, 2018 fixes this issue. Check Windows Update if you encounters this problem.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Launch TortoiseGitMerge.
  2. Wait.
  3. Turn off Ribbon interface in Settings.
  4. Quit and launch it again.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

TortoiseGitMerge should show up within one or two seconds. but now it takes far longer time. Turning off the Ribbon interface makes it faster.

What version of TortoiseGit and Git are you using? On what operating system?

TortoiseGit 2.5.0.0 with Git 2.14.2. Windows 10 1709 Build 16299.15. My CPU is Intel Core i5-6400 @ 2.7Ghz.

Please provide any additional information below.

Please see the attached recording shows a slow start and high CPU usage. Video_2017-10-07_133559.wmv
