Windows explorer slow/very long delays with shell extension enabled

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Open explorer
  2. Right-click on any directory

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The context menu should appear, instead, the hourglass is displayed. It takes more than 8 seconds until the context menu appears.

What version of TortoiseGit and Git are you using? On what operating system?

I tested with 1.8.16.0 and 1.8.15.0 on Windows 7 Pro (Version 6.1, Build 7601: Service Pack 1)

Please provide any additional information below.

Note that this happens on a new started explorer instance. If you have already opened a context menu in an explorer, the next right-click is fast. Seems like an initialisation in TortoiseGit is taking long.

However, the first right-click on a new started explorer is fast if the TortoiseGit shell extensions is disabled.

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
