Submodule update error when fetchRecurseSubmodules has value on-demand

By beman.da... on December 28, 2013 21:11 (imported from Google Code)

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. git clone --recursive git@github.com:boostorg/boost.git modular-git
  2. In Windows Explorer with TortoiseGit, right-click directory modular-git, hover over TortoiseGit, click "Submodule update..."

At this point the "Could not get submodule list..." error box appears. See attached screen shot.

Note that "git submodule update" and other "git submodule ..." commands work fine. TortoiseGit Submodule update works fine on a small (2 subprojects) super-project.

The only thing odd I can think of is that Modular Boost has more than 100 submodules.

What version of TortoiseGit and msysgit are you using? On
what operating system?

git version 1.8.4.msysgit.0

TortoiseSVN 1.7.11, Build 23600 - 64 Bit , 2012/12/12 19:08:52
Subversion 1.7.8,
apr 1.4.6
apr-utils 1.3.12
neon 0.29.6
OpenSSL 1.0.1c 10 May 2012
zlib 1.2.7

Windows 7 all patches applied.

Please provide any additional information below.

Contact me if you need more information.

Thanks,
