Option to always put branch name in commit by default

By mark_satterthwa...@xyratex.com on January 25, 2013 12:30 (imported from Google Code)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Suggested enhancement.

  1. Can we have a setting that would always put the branch name into a commit message by default?
  2. We use the commit message to link our repository with a defect tracking system (Jira) and also within our continuous integration (Jenkins CI) system. To create the link we rely on the first line of the commit message being the branch name, but we cannot enforce this with hooks.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
For the commit message to include the branch name in the first line. This would be an option users could enable/disable.

What version of TortoiseGit and msysgit are you using? On
what operating system?
Windows 7 Professional
TortoiseGit 1.7.15.6
git version 1.7.10.msysgit.1 (C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\bin)
