Unwanted text formatting in commit dialogue

By telgl... on December 01, 2012 02:30 (imported from Google Code)

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Enter this text in a commit message: surprise
  2. Or this text: diffident
  3. Or this text: cat<n>dog rabbit turtle monkey

What is the expected output?
No formatting applied to the text, or at least some way to turn it off.

What do you see instead?
Formatting is applied, underlines between "_" and bolding between "*". In example 3, everything between the underlines, including the spaces, gets formatting applied to it.

What version of TortoiseGit and msysgit are you using?
TG 1.7.15, msysgit 1.7.11

what operating system?
Win XP-32 SP3

Please provide any additional information below.
The angle brackets seem to be important in example #2 (closed).

This is not new behavior with 1.7.15; it has been in previous TGit versions but I did not file a report before.

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
