Command fails on folder with leading dash

By eternaln... on August 11, 2009 14:05 (imported from Google Code)

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Create a folder (or file?) with a leading dash in its name, e.g. "-
    test-".
  2. Create a file in this folder.
  3. Add the folder to your repo.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The folder's files should be added, instead the add command fails with
error "unknown switch, usage: git add [options]".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
TGit 0.9.1, Git 1.6.3.2, Windows 7 RTM.

Please provide any additional information below.
Browsing the parent folder also crashes the cache (using default cache
settings).

NOTE: I initially posted this to the wrong project (msysgit), see the
first comment (http://code.google.com/p/msysgit/issues/detail?id=306#c1)
for a fix.

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
