Add file to index with special character (ei – "dash") or accent fail without any message

By dra... on January 17, 2012 13:39 (imported from Google Code)

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Create a file named attività.txt or my–test.txt
  2. Select the file and choose "Git add..." from context menu
    or
  3. Choose "Git Commit"
  4. Select all file unversioned and committed

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The files added regularly to the tree; like happen if I do the same operation from git bash!.

TortoiseGIT doesn't show any error, in the first case it give a general errors message:
Error Failed to append to index
Error - Failed to initialize entry. 'file-path/attività.txt' cannot be opened
In the second it stuck and then crash

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
OS: Windows 7
TortoiseGIT: 1.7.6.0
Git: 1.7.8.msysgit.0
