initial window size could be smaller

On my system (Debian with XFCE) on launch the window is sized 1188 x 898 with a lot of blank space near the bottom. It can be resized smaller after opening, but one of my machines is a netbook with only 1024 x 600 screen, where it's a bit awkward to do that (but not impossible).

I suggest the vertical blank space be reduced by default, and perhaps a slightly narrower window could be useful too. On my desktop a comfortable size is 896 x 597 (minimum height, but wider than the minimum width of 658 it can be resized to).

Caveat: I don't have the correct font installed, so YMMV...
