License: CC0-1.0 not usable

In the context of a European research project GaiaX we would like to USE, CONTRIBUTE TO and EXTEND the tzip standards for the tokenization of data.

An initial evaluation of the documents and their usage with tools in the ecosystem are promising but the documents are provided under the license CC0-1.0 and can thus not be used as the paragraph 4a) e.g. cannot be implemented:

  1. Limitations and Disclaimers. a. No trademark or patent rights held by Affirmer are waived, abandoned, surrendered, licensed or otherwise affected by this document.

According to legal the provider of software and/or documents is challanged towards a reaffirmation of 4a) by explicitly stating that this work and its use is free of any trademark and petent rights the affirmer owns or controls, or did in the past, and it can be used without furhter obligations.

The bottom paragraph of every tzip file states the following which is not clear in that regard:

Copyright

Copyright and related rights waived via CC0.

I can assure that this would be evaluated by every company and result in legal debates and troubles. It would be extremly beneficial if by any chance the work confirmed by the contributors can be licensed under e.g. Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY-4.0) or any other approved license typically used for standardization documents. Maybe before making a decision on a specific license the community should be consulted beforehand.
