Feature request: Inspect selection
Currently there is the very helpful "Inspect particles" function where you can use the mouse to select some atoms and then see information about them. It would be nice if this could also be done for the current selection. E.g. I know that something strange is going on with particle N, so I would like to see the coordinates of that particle. However, I may not actually be able to see it, and thus not able to click on it.
I think I have developed a nice solution to this problem. The now extended Particle Inspection utility provides the possibility to enter a Boolean expression for picking the particles of interest, similar to the Expression Select modifier.
Picking them using the mouse is still possible the same way it was before. The utility automatically displays the Boolean expression that would lead to the same set of selected particles (see screenshot linked below).
If you are interested in seeing the properties of the particles currently selected in the data pipeline, you simply have to enter the expression "Selection". This expression will match all particles whose
Selectionproperty is non-zero and show their properties.
