feedback

  • Session run on 2019-11-20 at SLCU.
  • Number of attendees: not sure, forgot to count exactly. But from my head at least 15 people, including 3 from Plant Sciences.
  • Compiled feedback from sticky-notes (asked for a positive, an improvement and something else you'd like to have a session on).

Good:

  • 6x online materials are great
  • well explained
  • having basic knowledge to run jobs
  • good intro, step-by-step, working on different OS
  • 2x good overview of HPC
  • good analogy for scheduling system (I used the restaurant analogy)
  • well paced and nice that you checked on how everyone was getting along
  • syntax and commands shown to use HPC

To improve:

  • what jobs should be run on an HPC versus local machine
  • getting the code together to run on the cluster
  • conda was not needed (from someone that was familiar with conda)
  • more usage examples on online materials
  • more interactive tasks to keep people following along more
  • more technical information
  • test software on Mac
  • 4x (none)

Request:

  • 2x Job Arrays
  • 2x conda environments
  • GPU accounts
  • More usage examples
  • best practices and adaptations needed to convert script from running on local machine vs. cluster
  • snakemake on HPC
