Make SID/Coordinates management more user-friendly
As Anastassia,
I want that filling the SID/Coordinates column content is not required by the user in case I did not check the "Labels" check-box in step 2 of the selection wizard and if all dimension columns are present and filled appropriately,
So that I can choose to fill either SID/Coordinates or dimension cells, which makes the tool more user-friendly.
Details
-
When the "Labels" check-box in step 2 of the selection wizard was not checked and if the SID/Coordinates cell is empty but I filled all required dimension cells, then the Excel add-in should auto-fill the SID/Coordinates cell with the appropriate content from the dimension cells content before saving back data or referential metadata. -
If no SID/Coordinates nor dimension cells are filled, or if no SID/Coordinates is filled and the "Labels" check-box in step 2 of the selection wizard was checked then raise an informative error before submitting the data to the transfer: "In order to submit data or metadata please make sure to fill the corresponding "coordinates" or "series identifier" (SID) cells." Note that today the add-in sends wrong stuff to the transfer. This should be avoided and the user needs to understand the issue immediately. -
If the SID/Coordinates was wrongly filled (e.g. incorrect number of dots, not allowed codes/characters), then raise an informative error before submitting the data to the transfer: "The "coordinates" or "series identifier" (SID) in row [XXX] are/is incorrect. It must contain [XX] dots. A value of '[XXXX]' for dimension '[XXXX]' is not allowed. The expected order of dimensions is DIM1, DIM2, DIM3, DIM4." Note that today the add-in sends wrong stuff to the transfer. This should be avoided and the user needs to understand the issue immediately.
Original request
At the moment it is quite hard to manage SID in the Excel addin.1. When adding or editing referential metadata, it’s not clear if the SID and/or the Dimensions fields are required (no hints in the UI). After further tests it turns out that filled dimension columns do not play any role and SID is what defines the reference metadata attachment.
2. SID in hard to fill manually, especially when DSD contains many dimensions (e.g. NAMAIN DSD).
3. TIME_PERIOD is not part of the SID and especially new users don't know where to put these details
4.
Ideally, SID should be hidden from the UI and filled in the background when the end user fills the dimension columns.
