Choropleth map with continuous colour scale
As a user of the Data Explorer
I would like to generate Choropleth maps with a continuous colour scale to replace current colour ranges (discretion).
The current colour range (discretion) feature is an arbitrary choice of a data classification method into a few concrete intervals which represents a data manipulation potentially falsifying the statistical meaning of the data.
Instead of applying a classification, the continuous colour value method directly converts the variable values into their best possible corresponding colour values. Within the continuous colour value method, the user could still choose the start, end and transition colours through ready-made colour palettes.
PS. Contrary to this mockup, the colour scale labels should be horizontal and placed in the footer.
Colour scale labels are to be provided for continuous colour scales:
This allows a user to better interpret the colours and their values.
The available colour palettes should be easily configurable (in number, names and colour) by the deploying organisation.
The proposed colour palettes (colours from Charte Graphique) for OECD and DE-demo usage are:
