Why upload a file instead of directly sending/attaching it
In "Tactics Guides 02 - Communication 03 Use messaging apps more securely" under "[Be careful when receiving links and files](https://gitlab.com/securityinabox/securityinabox.gitlab.io/-/tree/545f30cde72f9802eda872778e0896a306d9d420/src/communication/secure-chat#be-careful-when-receiving-links-and-files)" the rationale behind the following recommendation is not clear:
> If you really need to share a file through a messaging app, consider uploading the files to a secure file storage platform and sending the download link.
In some cases, this may be required in order to work around the size limitations of attachments in email and other messaging tools. But what security benefits does this have?
One clear draw back is the exposure to the operator of the file-sharing service, which can only be mitigated by encryption and/or verification, but this is complicated and is not discussed here, and is indeed unrequited, and is probably a downgrade from the e2ee and retention management (auto-deletion) provided by the messaging services/apps.
