Missing app icon in macOS / Icon redesign
Missing icon
Neither the release nor the nightly builds have a proper icon on macOS.
The Cinco.app/Contents/Info.plist
suggests there should be an icon for the app at Cinco.app/Contents/Resources/Eclipse.icns
, but the file does not exist:
<key>CFBundleIconFile</key>
<string>Eclipse.icns</string>
Redesign
Three reasons for a redesign:
-
The current icon's resolution is too low. The highest resolution is currently 128 x 128 pixels. macOS suggest using icons up to 1024 x 1024 pixels ("512 x 512 @2x") for its user interface.
-
The icon should not have too many transparent areas. Only opaque areas of an icon are clickable in macOS. As the center of the Cinco icon is transparent, you often waste a double click when trying to launch Cinco.
-
The current version of macOS, Big Sur, uses a new uniform look for app icons: Squircles.
I suggest using the splash screen of Cinco as a template, as it incorporates the Cinco branding and adds a bit of color compared to the original icon. Additionally I would exchange the solid background color for a subtle gradient (customary for macOS icons).
