scanadf -L crashes

Original user report:

This is with Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa, running on an AMD Ryzen 3 1200.

$ scanadf -L
device `genesys:libusb:001:002' is a Canon LiDE 220 flatbed scanner
double free or corruption (out)
Aborted (core dumped)

$ scanadf -V
scanadf (sane-frontends) 1.0.14

I reproduced this on a Ryzen 7 2700 system with a networked pixma scanner attached so unlikely to be backend related.
