Request to add a new scanner: Canon LiDE400

I tried with Ubuntu 18.04.1, all updates installed.

I recently purchased a Canon LiDE400 but it is not detected in SANE aware applications. I also could not find the scanner in one of the lists at http://www.sane-project.org/sane-supported-devices.html , including the unsupported list.

The scanner is officially supposed to be compatible with Ubuntu 18.04, but it seems to be running only with Canon's proprietary Software: scangearmp2-3.70-1-deb.tar.gz which provides the scangearmp2 command (which is more like a joke).

scangearmp2 command allows me to scan around in principle, but I'd rather like to have SANE support to use the scanner with applications I'm used to (e.g. gscan2pdf).

Could you please add the scanner to one of the lists and maybe even add SANE support, e.g. by integrating an external backend via Canon's proprietary driver?
