Canoscan LiDE 220 aborts before end of 4800dpi colour scan

Using scanimage:

scanimage -d genesys --resolution 4800 --mode Color > col_4800.pnm

...results in the scan aborting about 1/3 way through and resulting in a truncated file. Scanning in Gray mode results in a full scan image.
