Wine conflicts - libsane:i386
Using Linux Mint 20.3 Installed the v.1.0.32 (focal) Sane packages (64bit) from here: https://launchpad.net/~sane-project/+archive/ubuntu/sane-release/+packages Works well, no problems with scan, but:
packages i386 from above can not be installed to 64 bit systems. Update to wine stable 7 failed. After a lot of search discovered that wine attempts to install the libsane1:i386 package, from the above ppa, which fails.
Disabled the Sane PPA. Started install again, wine attempted to install the libsane1:i386 from the Ubuntu repository. This is older, so conflicts with libsane-common 1.0.32 -installation of wine failed.
Can be patched the libsane1:i386 pack - make it possible to install on 64 bit systems?
I am using the focal0 package but I think this related to others to. I tried to install the i386 deb-s with gdebi but got error message: package can"t be installed, nothing more information. The libsane from the Ubuntu repo is to old, does not supports my Canon 5600F even is 8 year old! There is not a solution for me using the libsane version maintained by Ubuntu.
Reported also to Wine, got this answer from they:
That's a problem with the packages from that repository. Report it to the PPA maintainer. WineHQ packages are built against dependencies provided by the main and universe repositories, and that is the only configuration supported. Apt requires the i386 version to match the amd64 version, so your choice is to either downgrade sane to the official distro version or find an installable i386 sane package whose version matches your amd64 sane package. Required dependencies are generated automatically by dpkg-shlibdeps during the packaging process. We are not going to stop building our packages with sane support.
