HP Scanjet 2200c ("plustek"): Multiple scans cause gray corruption across the long bimedian

When more than one scan is performed in a "program session", the second image will have its colours corrupted across the long bimedian.
Images below were taken by first scanning with GNOME Document Scanner and then XSane without unplugging or restarting the scanner.
The same bug happens if the initial scan is done in colour mode and then in text/gray mode. Switching to colour mode for the third scan works but gray remains broken until the program is quit.

System Information:

  • OS: Fedora 35 x86_64
  • Packages:
    • sane-backends-1.0.32-5.fc35
    • simple-scan-40.6-1.fc35
    • xsane-0.999-41.fc35
