Red and Yellow overlay after 3rd scan with simple-scan Epson Perfection 1260

In Ubuntu 19.10 x64 and 18.04 x64 a red and yellow overlay appears after the third scan with simple-scan. It doesn't appear on i386 (32 bit) systems like Ubuntu 18.04 i386 or Debian 10 i386. If I restart simple-scan after the 2nd scan the next one is normal. Bus 001 Device 008: ID 04b8:011d Seiko Epson Corp. GT-7300U [Perfection 1260/1260 PHOTO]
