Low default buffer size results in poor scanner performance
The default buffer size of 32kB seems to be much too small for high resolutions at least on some scanners (e.g. Canoscan Lide 80). This causes the scanner to pause and resume scanning repeatedly which significantly reduces scanning speed.
What are the reasons for using so small buffer size? Is it due to the fact that the tool might be used on embedded systems?
I propose we raise the default to 1MB.
